Tom Simpson White Jersey Peugeot Michelin BP Team Winner Paris-Nice 1967

Tom Simpson (1937–1967) was one of the greatest cyclists in British history. He became the first British rider to wear the Tour de France Yellow Jersey (1962) and the first to win the Road World Championship (1965). Renowned for his relentless fighting spirit and graceful riding style, Simpson rose to prominence in the 1960s as the star rider of the French Peugeot-Michelin-BP professional team (predecessor of the modern TotalEnergies team).
In 1967, Simpson achieved a historic victory at Paris-Nice, known as "The Race to the Sun," one of the most prestigious spring stage races. The eight-stage, approximately 1,200-kilometer event spanned flat roads, rolling hills, and mountain passes. Simpson secured his win with a dominant performance on the Stage 6 climb of Mont Ventoux (a legendary ascent nicknamed "The Giant of Provence"), showcasing his extraordinary endurance. His overall time advantage crowned him the first British champion of Paris-Nice, cementing his legacy as a trailblazer for British cycling.
